A parade celebrating diverse identities
Since its first edition in 2023, Des Fils et des Mains (sewing threads and hands) has established a fresh vision of fashion, far removed from elitist and normative representations. This participatory project places clothing at the heart of a collective reflection on cultural, bodily, and gender identities. More than just a fashion show, it is a celebration of diversity, highlighting the personal narratives woven into each pattern, each cut, each color, each texture.
A collective adventure, between creation and transmission
For over two years, professional and amateur seamstresses collaborated to create a unique collection, reflecting the diverse identities and heritages of its creators. Each piece tells a story, carried by the hands that shaped it and the inspirations drawn from around the world. The garments are not merely objects: they embody memory, assertion, and self-expression.
A synergy between three committed associations
This project was born from a meeting and a desire to work together. Three Bordeaux-based associations decided to unite their values and creativity to experiment with a new way of working together.
- Tandis que nous cousons… is an association that uses sewing as a means of social connection and expression. It organizes shared sewing sessions in workshops and in unexpected locations with medical and social care facilities.
- La Maison De La is an artistic, drag, and multidisciplinary association whose mission is to preserve and perpetuate Club-Kids art and advocate for the professionalization of drag. The association's actions aim to promote difference, being on the margins, and to awaken everyone's curiosity.
- La Pangée is a citizen-led, social and cultural initiative that works to celebrate diversity without borders. It organizes intercultural meetings, coordinates co-created actions, facilitates cooperation between local stakeholders and implements respect for cultural rights.
Working on different issues, these three organizations came together around a common goal: celebrating all forms of diversity. Through some thirty free sewing workshops and a multidisciplinary event presented in the chapel of Villa Pia, more than 600 people participated in the two editions of this project, and around sixty pieces were created collectively.
Supported by the City of Bordeaux's Equality and Diversity Fortnight, Des Fils et des Mains is an experiment that has demonstrated the need to create spaces where bodies and identities can exist freely, far from norms and judgments. This initiative, beyond textiles, weaves human connections and shapes a more inclusive vision of the world.
